‘Silver Bells (Christmas Time in the City)’ is the French Pop Dream’s Christmas single for 2015 and you will be able to buy it on iTunes from 7 December. It is a cover version of the classic song, first recorded by Bing Crosby and Carol Richards in 1950 (Bob Hope and Marilyn Maxwell sang it in the film The Lemon Drop Kid soon after.)

We love Silver Bells, as it has a great, hopeful/poignant sense of place and time. It is the biggest French Pop Dream production yet, with Anne’s soft-voiced yearning backed by French accordions and an English brass band. It’s also the first (but surely not the last) French Pop Dream song to feature the double-bass of Scott Warman.

We recorded at Studios de la Seine, which is one of the biggest studios in Paris. Francoise Hardy has recorded there. So has Jarvis Cocker. Now us. We worked with Nabil Essemlani, who has previously worked on Kanye West’s Yeezus. Silver Bells was mixed, as all French Pop Dream records are, by Jamie West in London.

The CD single of ‘Silver Bells’ comes with two extra tracks: Theme from L’Amour or Less is the only French Pop Dream song in French and is the theme to the US TV Paris-set romcom that we were asked to write this year. Track 3 is ‘It Makes The Day Go By A Little Faster’.
